Tanzania Wildlife and Archaeological Safari

Summary: This safari takes you through the highlights of the unrivaled beauties of Tanzania?s northern parks, and winding through some interesting archaeological sites.

The tour starts you out at the Ngorongoro Conservation Area where you first overnight. Ngorongoro is an important facet of Tanzania?s eco-system. Here you will be met with spectacular vistas, virgin forests, and Africa? celebrated wildlife in great variety and abundance. You will definitely agree! The beauty of the Ngorongoro Crater and the profusion of its gifts justifies those who refer to it as Africa?s Garden of Eden.

Thereafter, proceed on to the famous Serengeti National Park for a two nights stay. The Serengeti is Tanzania?s oldest and most famous wildlife sanctuary, and has been selected as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Predictably the most popular of the country?s parks, Serengeti is home to an unbelievable count of animals championed by the ?Big Five?, numerous plains species and other large mammals.

Onwards to Ndutu Conservation Area, in the heart of the Serengeti Plain with the Ngorongoro Crater in the backdrop. Besides an abundance of wildlife, Ndutu holds a wealth of ancient history of the rich culture and life stock that once existed here.

CrocodileLastly, the tour heads you on to the spectacular Lake Manyara National Park where you spend a further night as you drive nearer to the close of your safari. Here, before taking on the final stretch to Arusha, enjoy a magical safari experience through this forested park with its winding driveways. Here, you are bound to pleasure in some excellent bird watching and game spotting, not missing to notice the legendary Lake Manyara tree-climbing lion.

Itinerary

DAY 1: ARRIVE IN ARUSHA & DRIVE TO NGORONGORO
The tour starts with lunch in Arusha town at 1230hrs.
At 1400hrs, depart for Ngorongoro Conservation Area -an important facet of Tanzania?s eco-system. Here you will be met with spectacular vistas, virgin forests, and Africa? celebrated wildlife in great variety and abundance. Ngorongoro is one of the best places to pitch camp as a base for wildlife viewing.

Enjoy some game viewing as you make your way to the lodge for check-in and to freshen up.

DAY 2: NGORONGORO - NORTHERN SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK (Lobo Area)
On this day you descend 2000 feet (over 600 meters) to the floor of the Ngorongoro Crater for a half day crater tour. Explore the forest areas that are inhabited by monkeys and elephants; the lake area where you may see the flamingos and; the open Savannah where the lions hunt for food. You will definitely agree! The beauty of the Ngorongoro Crater and the profusion of its gifts justify those who refer to it as Africa?s Garden of Eden.

Enjoy a sumptuous lunch at the lodge. After lunch, take a drive to Serengeti National Park and proceed to Lobo on the Northern part of the park. Serengeti is Tanzania?s oldest, largest and most famous wildlife sanctuary.

DAY 3: CENTRAL SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK
Enjoy a morning game drive in the endless plains of the Serengeti for a chance to see the great herds of wildebeest, zebras and gazelles or a pride of lions lounging in the shade.
Return to your lodge for lunch before departing to central part of Serengeti National Park for overnight.

Serengeti National Park briefs
The name Serengeti comes from a Maasai language word meaning endless plains. The park is as big as Northern Ireland, its ecosystem, which includes the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, the Maswa Game Reserve and Kenya?s Masai Mara Game Reserve. It lies between the shores of Lake Victoria in the west, Lake Eyasi in the South, and the Great Rift Vally to the East. As such, it offers the most complex and least disturbed ecosystem on earth. A unique combination of diverse habitats enables it to support more than 30 species of the large herbivores and nearly 500 species of birds.

DAY 4: Serengeti National Park ( Ndutu Area )
Early morning game, then head back to the lodge for breakfast. Spend your mid morning at leisure enjoying usage of recreational facilities provided at the lodge. Have lunch at the lodge.

After lunch, drive to Ndutu area on the border between Ngorongoro and Serengeti. Enjoy game viewing en-route to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

DAY 5: NDUTU - LAKE MANYARA NATIONAL PARK
Enjoy a morning game drive around Ndutu Area. Lunch is at Ndutu camp or the lodge.
After lunch drive to Olduvai Gorge, site of Louis and Mary Leakey?s renowned archaeological discoveries. Their findings include some of the man?s earliest known ancestral remains. From here, continue on to Lake Manyara arriving with game viewing on the way to the lodge. Check-in for dinner and overnight.

Lake Manyara National Park briefs
The cleavage, known as the Great Rift Valley, can be identified from the space as the most distinctive feature of the continent. The seam of this cleavage has developed a series of fascinating and beautiful lakes. Manyara is a fantastic biggame park. The variety of habitats parallels its exceptional scenery. Every imaginable East African animal is found here in abundance. Some of the most amazingly large pods of hippos congregate at the rivers emerging into the lake, and the bird life is plentiful.

DAY 6: LAKE MANYARA - ARUSHA
After an early breakfast, you will depart for a morning game drive in Lake Manyara National Park whose inhabitants include hippos, monkeys, tree climbing lions, flamingos and other varieties of bird life. Mid morning, drive back to Arusha.

Lake Manyara National
Remarks: PS: When arranging for your international air tickets, note that it is usually cheaper to disembark at Nairobi in Kenya. You then take a shuttle bus to Arusha at a cost of US$ 20. This shuttle bus leaves at 0800 and 1400 hrs daily from either Nairobi or Arusha. The drive takes 5 hours. If you wish to make use of this option, please indicate so.
