Presidential Heritage Tour and Kogelo Community Safari in Kenya – 3 Days / 2 Nights
Tour Highlights; This tour can start from Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport or Kisumu’s International Airport which is under reconstruction to allow Air force one landing with Barack next time he visits Kenya. This is a three day trip which takes you to the community of Nyang’oma Kogelo village where the father of the USA president Barack Obama’s father was born and bread. You will be able to visit the local Ngiya market, pass through the equator line at Maseno and visit the local Kogelo dispensary, Kogelo market and Senator Barack Obama secondary school just behind the home. In addition to this trip, you will also visit the Siaya town. You will also visit the local villages in the surrounding.
Itinerary:
Day 1: Arrival – Nairobi / Kisumu
On arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi or alternatively on arrival at Kisumu International Airport, you will be met by our tour manager who will brief you on your community visits to Kogelo before you are transferred to your hotel for check in. Depending on the time of arrival, if you arrive in the morning flight, you will be able to visit the Kogelo Community village during the day. If you arrive in the evening by evening flights, you will be able to start your trip the next day. For those who are traveling by road from Nairobi to Kisumu, you expect to arrive in the afternoon in Kisumu. You will therefore be able to start your trip the next morning. You will also be taken for a Kisumu City tour, time allowing, you may have a boat ride around the Lake.
Kogelo is a typical Kenyan rural village with most residents living modestly by small-scale farming. The village has a primary school - Senator Obama Primary School and a high school -Senator Obama Secondary School. The land for both schools was donated by Barack Obama, Sr., a native of the village and they were renamed after his son and then US senator Barack Obama in 2006. There is also a health centre. The village has a shopping centre with shops and a bar. Previously the village had no electricity, but it was connected to the power network immediately after the 2008 US presidential election.

Day2:KisumuCity-Kogelovillage
You will depart Kisumu in the morning after breakfast at your residence and head through Kisumu Busia road. You will then reach Maseno University gates and proceed just 150 meters from the Maseno University gates to the Equator Line Point. After a photographic session on the Equator line, you will proceed to Luanda town then, you will divert to the left heading straight to Ngiya market. If you arrive on a Tuesday, then you will be lucky to have a glimpse of the market day at Ngiya. You then proceed and divert onto the left just before you reach Mbeji Academy onto the Murram road. You will then take about 15 minutes before you arrive at the Kogelo Dispensary on your right. After a visit of the dispensary proceed to the Kogelo market, Kogelo Primary School and Senator Barack Obama Secondary School. You will then enter Sarah Obama’s home behind the secondary school.
Kogelo is the ancestral home of Barack Obama, Sr., the father of current United States President-elect Barack Obama. Barack Obama, Sr. is buried in the village. Some of their family members, including his paternal grandmother Sarah Anyango Obama, still live in the home.In the home, Sarah Obama’s home; you will find both the grave sites for Barack Obama Sr. and his father’s. you will also find in the homestead Sarah’s house, the security tents, visit the vegetable garden, the cattle Boma and sit under the big mango trees where Sarah usually have interviews with visitors.
After the visit, you will proceed to Siaya town and then back to Kisumu city for dinner and overnight at your hotel.
(Alternatively, you may decide to spend a night in a rural homestead or a modern homestead along the Lake Victoria. Lunch will be served at the homestead, dinner and overnight either in Kisumu city or a homestead).

Day 3: Kisumu City - Siaya - Kogelo village (Cultural Tourism)-Departure
After morning breakfast, you will depart for Siaya in Alego where you will be taken to the local homesteads where you will experience the cultural dances, Nyatiti traditional music, Ohangla playing and the local community market. You will also visit the local dispensary and the local market at Kogelo You will then proceed, time allowing into the local secondary and primary schools where you may donate you educational books if any. You will then drive back to Kisumu at the end of the day and proceed to the Kisumu International Airport for your departure flights.
