Nigeria in Western Africa plays a major part in Film making in Africa. Nigeria host, Nollywood, Africa’s third largest film industry is hosted in Nigeria. Nollywood in Nigeria is Africa’s prolific film making hub. It provides training for Africa’s film makers as to how they can put up local content in film making in the Africa region. Nollywood provides technical know how to the film industry in Africa. It has recently trained Kenyan film makers with the initiative of pay TV operator, Mnet and the Kenya Film Commission (KFC). Nollywood based in Nigeria in Africa, duplicates Hollywood in America.

With its diverse cultures and daily sunshine from Sahara desert to the north, across the equator and down to Kalahari Desert, Africa is a pivotal point for the west and Hollywood film producers.  The African mountains which include Mt. Kilimanjaro and Mt. Kenya are regarded as the highest points in Africa for film production with their snow white caps under the hot sunshine near the Equator line. The National parks in Africa are teaming with many different wildlife species which make wildlife filming a major event for film producers, making a movie in East African part of Africa is very exiting in the wilderness of Serengeti and Maasai Mara, now hosting the New 7th wonder of the world. The Rift Valley terrain and its escarpment, its Volcanic Mountains and Salty Alkaline Lakes of Africa which are teaming with different bird species provide a heaven for film making in African Birding.

The African beaches are also a major sport for film makers, these includes the tip of Cape Town, the Waterfront where you will find the most popular sports for film making, the Mombasa city and  Zanzibar island are flowing with white sandy beaches  which are a major sport for film production for honeymooners and water sports filming. Holiday makers to Africa carry with them, their filming cameras which they use in filming their holiday adventures. Africa being a continent of drums, the entertainment which is derived from drum beating leaves the film producers coming back to Africa annually for film production.

  Filming Adventures in East Africa

Filming in East AfricaFilm making in East Africa is concentrated in all sectors of the economy of East Africa which include the cultural and community based film centers among the communities of East Africa. The East Africa wildlife National parks are the most exiting of them all, not to mentioning the Kenyan semi- desert north which is teaming with wildlife and cultural activities among the northern tribes which are popular for film production. The daily sunshine of East Africa can not be left out since it plays a major part in film production in East Africa.

The Lake Victoria, shared among the three countries of East Africa which include Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania is the largest fresh water lake in Africa. This lake is a centre for film production as far as water sports, fishing and boating is concerned on Lake Victoria which now harbors the chimpanzee sanctuary on Ngamba Island on the side of Uganda and the islands of Lake Victoria which include: Mfangano, Rusinga, Ndere, Mageta, Kirika and Takawiri islands are the virgin untapped film production islands inside Lake Victoria.
The mountain Gorillas, the only apes in the world which share 95% of their behavior and livelihood with humans are found in the East Africa community countries. These are based at Bwindi, Maghinga and Virunga National parks of Uganda and Rwanda respectively. These are the other untapped centers for film making and cinematography.

Lately, the slums of East Africa have become a centre spot for film production; these include the Kibera slums from which part of the Constant Gardener movie was captured.  The climate plays a major part of film production in East Africa. The two rainy seasons are from April to mid May and from October to November of every year. Even during these rainy seasons, there is enough sunshine in every part of East Africa sufficient for movie capture, since the equator passes across the middle of East Africa.
